The Glorious 40 years of BMW 3 Series History

The 3 Series is one of the most popular BMW Series celebrating its 40th year in the long-standing BMW history. The well-received model has been around since 1975 and has launched its sixth generation in May of 2015.

Originally appeared in the sporting compact segment, the line-up was produced to replace the legendary BMW 2002 Coupe. Today, the 3 Series is one of the most popular models that the brand offers. According to BMW, sales of the 3 Series 4-door Sedan and Sports Wagon are accounting for roughly 25 percent (14 million sales) of total BMW worldwide vehicle sales.

This BMW 507 rocks! Not many cars can boast such an exciting life story. Painted a gleaming snow-white, this BMW 507 sports icon was displayed at the IAA in 1957, then raced with Hans Stuck at the wheel and in 1958, was sold to Elvis Presley while he was posted to Germany as part of his military service. The King of Rock ’n’ Roll had a lot of fun with the sports car, which he later had re-sprayed a fiery red – which they say was done to cover up all those traces of lipstick kisses, left by female fans!

The car returned to the USA and came to be owned by a racing driver, who was not overly precious with his vehicles, replacing the motor and the rear axle of the BMW 507 with the US large series ware. In the late 1960s, Californian car enthusiast and collector Jack Castor bought an extremely dilapidated vehicle and installed it in a squash court. For years, the car gathered dust while the owner dreamt of restoring it one day.
